“Supporting Entrepreneurship & Innovation” – A Lively Roundtable Moderated by Arabnet
Arabnet Beirut 2017 featured a roundtable bringing together Circular 331 funds to discuss the continued growth of entrepreneurship and the ecosystem in Lebanon. With the goal to expand on the scope of this session to include non-circular 331 funds in the discussion, Arabnet organized a follow-up roundtable on March 24, gathering relevant government representatives, investors, supporters.
The roundtable took place at Beirut Digital District and was moderated by Omar Christidis Chair of Arabnet, bringing together Dr. Khater Abi Habib, Chairman & General Manager of Kafalat, Dr. Bijan Azad, Academic Director of the Darwazah Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at AUB, Antoine Boustany, Investment Manager at Saned Equity Partners, Hala Rouphael, Legal Counsel at MEVP, Daniel Neuwirth and Hala Labaki, co-founders of shahiya.com, David Munir Nabti, Co-founder of AltCity, Jihad Bitar, Director of Smart ESA, Nadim Zaazaa, Country Director of UK Lebanon Tech Hub, Sami Abou Saab, CEO of Speed Lebanon, and Johnny Matta, Senior Entreprise Office at the UNDP project Ministry of Economy & Trade. IM Capital participated as an observer. Participants discussed funding gaps and valuations, dealflow and access to talent, exists, the culture of entrepreneurship, access to market, and regulatory frameworks. The outcome of the roundtable will be an article highlighting the main findings of the participants, as well as opportunities for direct collaboration between participants with shared interests.
