On June 8, 2018, the Consulate General of Lebanon in Montreal organized and hosted an information session regarding “Seeders of Montreal”, a program aimed to help Lebanese-led startups in Canada and build investment readiness of novice individuals from the Lebanese diaspora to become Business Angels through a learn & earn methodology. The guest speakers were Dr. Nicolas Rouhana, General Manager of IM Capital, and Ms. Brigitte Baumann, Founder and Partner of GoBeyond. Dr. Rouhana presented the entrepreneurial eco-system in Lebanon, and how the program could tap into the Lebanese startup scene in Montreal and build linkages with Lebanon. Ms. Baumann exposed how business angels are essential in a startup eco-system and “how to unleash the business angel in you”. The session was attended by young Lebanese entrepreneurs and executives living in Montreal, very passionate and dynamic, that showed enthusiasm and drive to support such initiatives which they found very useful and helpful. H.E. Chedid, the Consul of Lebanon in Montreal, welcomed the audience, and explained how the current Embassy staff and programs are geared towards supporting young Lebanese entrepreneurs and Lebanese-led startups in Quebec in particular and Canada in general. The “Seeders of Canada” program is under inception and should be announced during the Lebanese Diaspora Energy – North America conference, to be held in Montreal on September 15 & 16, 2018.
