IM Capital Participates in the Mix N Mentor Beirut Edition
The 2018 roadshow for Wamda’s flagship event Mix N’Mentor has arrived to Beirut on Friday the 14th of September at the Beirut Digital District. Mix N’ Mentor is a community event that aims to create a perfect ambiance for investors, mentors, corporates and entrepreneurs to discuss different avenues of collaboration and their part in the growing tech ecosystem in the broader region. The event, which has been carried out over 30 times across the region since 2012, has introduced this year a new format centered on roundtable group discussions based on the most relevant issues within each city’s startup ecosystem. Beirut’s edition kicked off with a panel gathering our own investment manager Corine Kiame, Fadi Bizri from B&Y Venture Partners, Sami Saad from Speed@BDD and Bijan Azad from the Samih Darwzah Center for Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship. The panel covered the main funding challenges startups are facing in Lebanon. According to Kiame, “Lebanon is lacking a Corporate Venture Capital which is essential for the sustainability of any startup ecosystem, but we are getting there…” Following the panel, the roundtable discussions started focusing on the following topics: Fundraising, Customer Acquisition and Starting Up. Many stakeholders joined the conversation and shared their expertise about the discussed topic including the panelists ; Saeb Nahhasa from Phoenician Funds; Riyad Abou Jaoudeh from MEVP; Antoine Al Boustany from Saned Partners; Khaled Talhouni from Wamda Capital; Bassam Jalgha Founder of Band Industries; Nader Museitif from Uber; Fadi Abbas Founder of Mobsting; Nitin Reen from Wamda Capital ; Karim Sarkis from Strategy&; Hassan Slaibi from Band Industries; Abde Agha from Vinelab; Samer Azar from Alex the CFO; Asma Zein from Crypta sal; Salam Yamout from Internet Society and Walid Faza from Wamda Capital. The event was able to put forward the importance of creating deeper conversations with the wider ecosystem. Later in the day, technical workshops were held by experts that aim to help founders gain critical skills, like cashflow management, branding and communications, agile web development, among others.
