Bokja, or the Explosion of Ancient, Modern, Vibrant & Colorful

The latest name to join IM Capital’s diverse portfolio of companies is Bokja Design Studio, the product of the vision of two passionate ladies: Hoda Baroudi and Maria Hibri. Merging their passions for ancient tapestries, textile, and antique furniture in 2000, they founded Bokja Design Studio, where new and vintage textiles are used to create vibrant handmade accessories and furniture pieces. The name of the company, Bokja, is a perfect reflection of the brand image, Bokja being an old Turkish word for the embellished velvet wrapping containing the traditional hand embroidered dowry of a bride.   “Bokja designs begin with a desire to share overlooked beauty in its most simple form, while capturing the essence of what it once meant and stood for. We layer history and memories while adding depth and dialogue to our work” are the talented entrepreneur’s words to describe their work. Baroudi and Hibri source furniture designs from the 50s, 60s and 70s, unearthed in Beirut’s flea-markets and antique dealerships, and then cover them with exuberant tapestries and textiles from the Levant and the legendary Silk Road countries of Central Asia. Not only do they create beautiful pieces, but they also give back to the community, sourcing talent from local designers, artisans, and carpenters. Featured in Kuwait, Milan, China, and France, Bokja’s work addresses the world while staying true to its true design concepts. In line with the entrepreneurs’ dreams and ambitions, Bokja Design Studio recently got funded by IM Capital and an angel investor. The amount will be used for marketing purposes, to hire additional talents, and mainly to merge the atelier and the boutique into one space where visitors can get a real feel of the effort and dedication behind the beautiful creations.
