IM Capital at the “Profits to Peace” Dialogue Conference
The Hollings Center for International Dialogue organized a dialogue conference entitled “Profits to Peace,” held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from July 19-23, 2017. The dialogue conference explored the role business can play and is playing in peace building efforts in the MENA region by exploring the challenges and opportunities businesses face in the region. Participants included academics, entrepreneurs, business professionals, development workers, and civil society representatives from the Middle East and the United States. The conference was held as an interactive, round-table dialogue.
Dr. Rouhana was invited to give a presentation entitled "Effective Models of Private Sector Engagement" focusing on how the private sector can be more engaged in conflict-risk states and what are some models that promote private sector engagement, and how foreign aid can be a key driver of economic development in conflict or post-conflict environments, as well as how new models of investment and corporate activity are playing an increasingly important role. He also tackled how can the private sector be encouraged to invest in high conflict-risk states, and how can entrepreneurship be encouraged and supported, as well as what are some successful finance and investment models in the Lebanese case.
